RARE SHREE TULASI-SADHANA FROM "SHREEMAD DEVI-BHAGAVATAM" (Shree Tulasi-Mantra and Shree Tulasi-Ashtaka in Sanskrit with English translations and explanations)

This autumn I am following to rare Shree Tulasi-sadhana from "Shreemad-Devi-Bhagavatam" ("Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana"). This sadhana is not secret, so I am sharing in my blog.

Shree Tulasi-sadhana from "Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana" destroys heavy karma baddhas, grants all siddhis and Mukti on Shree Vishnu-Loka (see the amazing and extraordinary Phala-Shruti below).

"Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana" ("Shreemad Devi-Bhagavatam") is traditionally considered to be of DakshinAchara Branch (Pure Sattvika Shaktism of Right Hand), so Shree Tulasi-sadhana is both Sattvika-Vaidika and Sattvika-Tantrika:

1. वेदे जानासि कण्वशाखोक्तमेव - vede jAnAsi kaNvashAkhoktameva - "Shree Tulasi-sadhana originates from Kanva-Shakha of Shukla Yajur-Veda" - as "Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana", 9.25.39 says and

2. The root of this sadhana is
Shree Tulasi Mantra with classic Tantrika bijas - श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ऐं वृन्दावन्यै स्वाहा  - śrīṃ hrīṃ klīṃ aiṃ vṛndāvanyai svāhā

The most famous (and Sarvottama!) Upasaka of Shree Tulasi-sadhana is Bhagavan Shree Narayana Personally (and as we all remember Bhagavan Shree Narayana is not a Vaishnava, but a Shakta!), so in "Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana", 9.25.14 Bhagavan Shree Narayana says:

वरं तस्यै ददौ विष्णुः सर्वपूज्या भवेरिति अहं त्वां धारयिष्यामि सुरुपां
varaM tasyai dadau viShNuH sarvapUjyA bhaveriti ahaM tvAM dhArayiShyAmi surupAM
"I grant to You (Shreemati Tulasi-Devi) the boon according to which You will be honoured in all Vishnu Pujas. Moreover, I (Bhagavan Shree Narayana) will always bear You (Shreemati Tulasi-Devi) on My Head and Chest!".
Now the practical side! Shree Tulasi-sadhana consists of: 1. Shree Tulasi-Mantra 2. Shree Tulasi-Ashtaka 3. Shree Tulasi-Puja (without avahana).

Actually, even Shree Tulasi-Ashtaka alone is enough, because "Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana" follows to Devi-Nama-Mahatmya-Siddhanta. It means that the recitation of Shree AdiShakti Names, that is both Vaidika and Tantrika Mantras/Stutis/Ashtakas/SahasraNams is the primary and the most important MahaDevi-Bhakti anga in Kali-Yuga!

नामोच्चारणमात्रेण वांछितार्थफलप्रदाnAmochchAraNamAtreNa vAMChitArthaphalapradA - "The mere utterance of MahaDevi Names grants enormous results!" - as "Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana", 3.9.40 says

and

निमेषार्धमात्रं पवित्रं चरित्रं शिवा चाम्बिका शक्तिरीशोति नामnimeShArdhamAtraM pavitraM charitraM shivA chAmbikA shaktirIshoti nAma - "Vishnu, Shankara and all devatas sing such MahaDevi Names as Ambika, ShivA (Shankari), Ishwari not interrupting even for a second!" as "Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana", 3.5.34 proclaims!

Due to this reason the Phala-Shruti of Shree Tulasi-sadhana says about Shree Tulasi-Ashtaka mainly, that is about the importance of 8 Names of Shreemati Tulasi-Devi.

Nevertheless, I strongly recommend to repeat minimum 108 times of Shree Tulasi-Mantra on Tulasi beads (or better 1008 times, that is 10 rounds!).

1. SHREE TULASI-MANTRA.

श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ऐं वृन्दावन्यै स्वाहा
śrīṃ hrīṃ klīṃ aiṃ vṛndāvanyai svāhā

"Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana", 9.25.10-11 says:

लक्ष्मी माया कामवाणी बीजपूर्वं दशाक्षरम् ।

"Shree Tulasi-Mantra is like Kalpataru tree, fullfilling all the wishes! Any upasaka obtains all the siddhis just by repeating this Shree Tulasi-Mantra (श्रीं ह्रीं क्लीं ऐं वृन्दावन्यै स्वाहा - śrīṃ hrīṃ klīṃ aiṃ vṛndāvanyai svāhā)".

2. "SHREE TULASI-ASHTAKA"
("Shree Tulasi-Stuti", glorifying 8 Names of Shreemati Tulasi-Devi from "Shreemad-Devi-Bhagavatam", 9.25.18-25).

I am publishing the Sanskrit version with English translation below, because people, who don't know Sanskrit, often ask for the translations. If you are interested in pure Devanagari version, see the very end of this article.

I praise that Dear Tulasi-Devi. Of old, Shree Tulasi appeared in the Vrndavana forest and therefore She is known as Vrndavani (NAME 02). I worship Shree Saubhagya Tulasi!"

I worship that Vishva-Pujita Tulasi, by whose contact, these countless universes are always rendered pure and holy; and therefore Shree Tulasi-Devi is called Vishva-Pavani (NAME 04).

I am suffering from Her bereavement, I always remember Shree Tulasi-Devi. Without Shree Tulasi, the devas do not get pleased, though other flowers may be heaped on them; therefore Shree Tulasi is considered to be the Essence of all the flowers - PushpaSara (Name 05)".

9.25.23: "Now I am in sorrow and trouble and I am very eager to see Her, Who is of the Nature of Purity Incarnate. The whole universe gets delighted when the bhaktas receive Her; hence Shree Tulasi is called Nandini (NAME 06); so may She be pleased with me!".

9.25.24-25: "There is nothing in the universe that can be compared to Her; hence She is called Tulasi (NAME 07)***; I take refuge in that Pure Tulasi. That Chaste Dear One is The Life of Shree Krishna, hence She is known as Krishna-Jivani (NAME 08). Now may Shree Tulasi save my life!".

***Note by Vishnudut1926: The Name 07 (Shree Tulasi) is a wordplay in Sanskrit, because "तुला - tulA" means "equality" in Sanskrit and word "तुलन - tulana" means "comparison". And - a note for the non-Hindi speaking audience - तुलना (tulanA) means "to compare" in modern Hindi.

PHALA-SHRUTI
("Shreemad Devi-Bhagavatam", 9.25.32-38)
Phala-Shruti is never recited, it is just for the information

"Shreemad-Devi-Bhagavatam", 9.25.32-33: "O Narada! Whosoever worships Shree Tulasi-Devi with Her Eight Names (1. Vrnda 2. Vrndavani 3. VishvaPujita 4. VishvaPavani 5. Tulasi 6. Pushpasara 7. Nandini and 8. KrishnaJivani), that is with this "Shree Tulasi-Ashtaka", acquires the merit of performing Ashvamedha Yajna (horse sacrifice)".

9.25.34-35: "Specially, on the Full Moon night of the month of Kartika (Karttika-Purnima), the auspicious birth ceremony of Shree Tulasi is performed. Of old Bhagavan Shree Vishnu worshipped Shree Tulasi-Devi at that time. Whoever worships with devotion on that Full Moon combination, the universe purifying Tulasi, becomes freed of all sins and goes up to Shree Vishnu-Loka".

9.25.36-37: "Offerings of Tulasi leaves to Lord Shree Vishnu in the month of Kartika bring merits equal to those in giving away ayuta*** cows. Hearing "Shree Tulasi-Stuti" at that period gives sons to the sonless persons, wives to the wifeless persons and friends to friendless persons".

***Note by Vishnudut1926: "अयुत - ayuta" means "10000 (ten thousand)" in Sanskrit.

रोगी प्रमुच्यते रोगाद्बद्धो मुच्येत बन्धनात् ।

9.25.38: "On hearing "Shree Tulasi-Ashtaka", the diseased become free of their diseases, the persons in bondage become free, the terrified become fearless, and the sinners are freed of their sins".***

***Note by Vishnudut1926: To put this Verse in more Tantrik way, it means that "Shree Tulasi-Ashtaka" destroys the so-called baddhas, that is everything that binds by heavy karmik disorders from this life or past lives - ailment baddhas, prison baddhas, debt baddhas and numerous baddhas of similar range.

As I promised, below is the text in pure Sanskrit. Don't forget, that you can always convert Devanagari into romanized ITRANS or IAST via #Sanscript Converter

The above-mentioned Shree Tulasi-Sadhana can be found in the Sanskrit-English edition of "Shree Devi-Bhagavata-Purana", Book 9, Chapter 25 (pages 1082-1085), you can find the full pdf-scan in my E-Library - http://vishnudut1926.blogspot.com/2018/10/devi-bhagavata-purana-sanskrit-english.html
