Translation: "They whirl not in the wheel of transmigration, Buffeted by the winds of sinful lives forlorn,
Who chant the names of Lakshmi, Indira, the Lotus-Born,
Vishnu's Consort or Daughter of Milky Ocean,
For you are the Treasure - all the Scriptures found,
And united with Mukunda, the Empress of the Cosmos around".
Notes by Shree M.K. Shreenivasan: Mukunda is one of the Several Names of Lord Vishnu and means "One who gives Mu (Salvation) and Ku (this world)". By being united with Him and also in Her own right, Goddess Lakshmi is the Supreme Controller of all the world and also the Dispenser of Salvation.
Her Transcendence is apparent from Her Names like VisnuPatni (The Wife of Bhagavan Shree Vishnu) which shows Her Participation, on equal terms, in all the three functions of Shriman Narayana.
Shri Desika goes one step further to explain how just the repetition of These Names will ensure a cessation of the cycle of births and deaths. He has chosen Five Names which are highly significant:
Lakshmi: Identifier of Vishnu
Padma: Esoteric, indicative of Her Unique Softness and Rarity.
Jaladhi-Tanaya: Not born like any other, Ayonija, Benefactor to the core.
Vishnu-Patni: Ever with the Lord in all His activities (cf) Vedic saying - Asyesana jagato Vishnu Patni.
Indra: Controller of all wealth and Supremely Powerful.
These Names are referred to as the "accretion by way of interest" to the Treasure (i.e.) Shree MahaLakshmi-Devi Herself - found in the Vedas.
Even this 'interest' will suffice to break the shackles of continuous births and deaths, caused by the winds of sinful actions, says the author (Shree Vedanta Desika Acharya).
The votaries of Goddess Lakshmi will also note that while the Thousand Names of Lord Vishnu found in the Vishnu Sahasranama are but a compendium by Bhishma from the sayings of sages (Rishibhih pangitani), those of Goddess Lakshmi are really culled out from the hoary Vedas and are therefore at a higher level.
