Translation: "How dare men, shallow-brained, numskulls all,
Ever sing Your Nature, Qualities and Glory?
Pristine You rose from The Milky Ocean,
Radiant they found You in the sacrificial hall;
Ever living in lotus gardens or on Lord Vishnu's Chest Aglow,
Your Wealth encircles heavens above and worlds below".

Ever living in lotus gardens or on Lord Vishnu's Chest Aglow,

Notes by Shree M.K. Shreenivasan: Having begun his composition, Shree Vedanta Desika suddenly hesitates to go further when he remembers how
Supremely Great Shreemati MahaLakshmi-Devi is by Her Very Birth, Her places of residence and finally Her Wealth. She was not born of mortals, but simply rose from the Milky Ocean (Kshirabdhi), when it was churned to produce nectar.
As is common knowledge, first came deadly poison (Halahala) and thereafter auspicious and precious things, like a white elephant (Airavata), white horse (Uccaisravas), Thunderbolt (Vajra), all of which Indra took for his use.
Then Sacred Basil (Tulasi), Parijata flower, Moon (Chandra) emerged from the ocean.
Finally Goddess Lakshmi came out from the ocean, followed by nectar.
Again, as Sita, She was found in the furrow of a ploughshare when the ground was being readied for a sacrificial rite by King Janaka. (By these words, the poet implies that Goddess Lakshmi is superior ever to Lord Vishnu who, as is well known, had to take birth from human parents occasionally as Vamana, Parashurama, Rama and Krishna to redeem mankind).
Such a unique being that She is, She cannot stay in ordinary humdrum places. The lotus is the finest flower known in this world and Lakshmi has chosen a garden (vanam) of lotus blooms for Her dwelling place.
Still better, Goddess Lakshmi Abides permanently on The Soft, Silken Chest of Bhagavan Shree Narayana Himself.
