The division of Puranas (Satvika, Rajasika, Tamasika) explained...

Shree AnandaTirtha (MadhvAcharya) in "Shree MahaBharata-Tatparya-Nirnaya" mentions the classic division of Puranas: 6 Satvika Puranas, 6 Rajasa Puranas and 6 Tamasika Puranas.

Apart from this division a less known classification from "Shree Garuda-Purana" (Moksha-Kanda) exists, it mentions only 3 Puranas as truly Satvika in Kali-Yuga - "Shree Vishnu-Purana", "Shree Bhagavata-Purana" and "Shree Garuda-Purana", but OM VishnuPad Shree MadhvAcharya follows to the standard and more well-known 6-fold classification.

Shree AnandaTirtha, "Shree MahaBharata-Tatparya-Nirnaya": "Sri Vyasa taught Rgveda to Paila. Krishna Yajurveda to Vaisampayana. Shukla Yajurveda to Surya. Samaveda to Jaimini. Atharvana Veda to Sumantu. He taught all the lores to His son Suka and Narada.

Then, Sri Vyasa created Romaharsana as a Suta by caste and instructed him to propagate Itihasa, Purana and PanchaRatra. He instructed SanatKumara, Bhrgu and Jaimini to propagate DhyanaYoga, Karmayoga and Karma-Mimamsa respectively.

Sri Vyasa himself composed the first and the last sutras of DaiviMimamsa and asked Paila and Sesa to compose the whole text.

Further, he edited:
1. The 6 Satvika Puranas viz. Vishnu, Narada, Bhagavata, Garuda, Padma and Varaha based on PanchaRatra.
2. The 6 Rajasa Puranas viz., Brahma, Brahmanda, Brahmavaivarta, Markandeya, Bhavisya and Vamana based on superficial references in Vedas, and
3. The 6 Tamasa Puranas viz. Matsya, Kurma, Linga, Siva, Skanda and Agni based on Pashupata Agama".

What is Bhagavata-Dharma and what makes a human tamasika?

GREAT EXCERPT FROM #MAHABHARATA TATPARYA-NIRNAYA" BY OM VISHNUPAD SHREE MADHVACHARYA (ANANDATIRTHA)#. BHISMA EXPLAINS BHAGAVATA-DHARMA TO PANDAVAS:

Bhisma said “to follow Bhagavata dharma is highest Dharma". He stated the essential points of Bhagavata dharma:

i) Vishnu is The Supreme Deity, everyone else is under His control

ii) All other deities are His devotees

iii) one should perform one’s duties without aiming at any benefit

iv) one should not do anything that is opposed to the devotees of Vishnu.

Further, Bhisma stated the duties of the four classes of people:

i) A brahmana should perform his prescribed duties. He should not cause any pain to anyone,

ii) A brahmana should not earn his livelihood. He should maintain himself by teaching and priestly profession,

iii) A ksatriya should protect the people,

iv) He should use sama, dana etc. carefully

v) A vaisya should undertake agriculture, commerce, money lending etc.

vi) A sudra should serve the other 3 classes for his maintenance,

vii) Brahmana has to dissiminate knowledge. If a brahmana is not available a ksatriya or vaisya may do so.

viii) Men of first three classes can study all lores (Vidyas) including Vedas. Women can study Itihasa and Purana.***

***Note by Vishnudut1926: Women and shudras actually belong to tamasika persons, but they can obtain Mukti via Vaishnava Itihasa, Puranas and Bhakti. See all the classic Pramanas from "Shree Vedanta-Sutra" and, for example, Shree Vadiraja-Tirtha glosses to "Shree Rukminisha-Vijaya" regarding this theme:

Besides, for example, #"Shree Iswara-Samhita"# (Vaishnava-PanchaRatra), Verse 4.202 says - शुद्रैस्तु स्थापिते स्त्रीभिः तामसाख्यं समाचरेत्  - shudraistu sthApite strIbhiH tAmasAkhyaM samAcharet - "Temples constructed by shudras and women belong to tamasika kind"...

Bhisma also explained the nature of three types of persons viz. sattvika, rajasa, and tamasa:

i) The tamasa persons do not consider Vishnu as Supreme:

a. They treat Him as equal to other deities.
b. They also do not consider Vishnu as possessing infinite number of qualities.
c. They distinguish between His MulaRupa and AvataraRupa.
d. They think that Visnu undergoes pleasure and pain, birth and death in AvataraRupas.

These people will fall into deep darkness.

ii) Middle level (rajasa) people will be born again and again as men (humans, manushya).

iii) Those who have firm and right knowledge about Bhagavan Shree Vishnu (satvika persons, who DON'T follow to the above mentioned errors of tamasika people) are superior people. They attain Mukti".

Shree Lakshmi-Avesha and Dwaraka-Leela...

UPDATE FROM 05-AUG-2018: YOU CAN FIND NEW, EXTENDED ARTICLE ABOUT LAKSHMI-AVESHA (WITH A LOT OF SANSKRIT PRAMANAS) HERE - http://vishnudut1926.blogspot.com/2018/08/Lakshmi-Avesha-ENG-Madhva-Siddhanta.html

**************************************

THE FOLLOWING EXCERPT FROM #MAHABHARATA TATPARYANIRNAYA OF SRI ANANDATEERTHA# [PAGE 90]  EXPLAINS THAT ONLY SHREEMATI RUKMINI-DEVI AND SHREEMATI SATYABHAMA-DEVI WERE THE FULL AVATARAS OF SHREEMATI LAKSHMI-DEVI DURING DWARAKA LEELA, WHILE OTHER PRINCESSES HAD ONLY "LAKSHMI-AVESHA" IN THEM:

"Krishna married Kalindi the sister of Yamuna. He married Nila by controlling seven bulls simultaneously.

Shri Krishna married Mitravinda defeating her brothers Vinda and Anuvinda. He also married Bhadra and Laksmana.

The condition for seeking the hand of Laksmana was more difficult than that of Draupadi. The aim of the arrow was placed reverting it and the arrow had to move above and hit it moving back.

Jarasandha, Duryodhana and others failed. Arjuna tried, but deliberately did not hit. He knew that She was to be married by Shri Krishna. Bhima did not even look at the bow out of high regard for Shri Krishna.
These marriages resulted in Shri Krishna having 8 Queens: Rukmini, Satyabhama, Jambavati, Kalindi, Nila, Mitravinda, Bhadra and Laksmana.
The first two were Full Incarnations of Goddess Lakshmi. The others had only the avesha of Lakshmi".

English annotation by Vishnudut1926: Classic Grantha from Shree Madhva-Vaishnava-Sampradaya (Tattvavada, Dvaita), a part of SarvaMoola-Grantha by OM VishnuPad Shree MadhvAcharya (also known as Shree AnandaTirtha).

1. According to Shree Madhva-Sampradaya some editions of "Shree MahaBharata" were interpolated and fabricated by asuras in Kali-Yuga, that's why Shree MadhvAcharya wrote "Shree MahaBharata TatparyaNirnaya" - a treatise explaining MahaBharata-Siddhanta in the right Vaishnava-key.

2. As for "Sri Bhagavata-Tatparya-Nirnaya" it explains the separate Verses from "Shree Bhagavata-Purana" and especially those Verses which are usually wrongly interpreted by advaitins (asuras, mayavadis).

The edition is in English-Sanskrit, but the knowledge of Sanskrit is necessary, because some Verses are not translated and some Sanskrit words in the English sentences are written in Devanagari (without transcription/translation).

The scan quality is perfect, especially for 10-inches android tablet (I have been reading in #Readera# on "Sepia" settings)!

Shree Durga wall [Varanasi]...

I  nearly died from joy when I saw this wall with Shreemati Durga-Devi! Wish all the houses were made from such painted walls!

The screenshot is from Varanasi-dedicated vlog by Kritika Goel, very much recommended for watching - https://youtu.be/i5F7Xh9CO8U
