मद्-आश्रयाः (mad-AshrayAH) - explanation by OM VishnuPad Vallabha-Acharya...

THE FOLLOWING IS THE BRILLIANT EXPLANATION OF THE VERSE 3.25.23 OF "SHREEMAD-BHAGAVATAM" BY OM VISHNUPAD VALLABHA-ACHARYA AND THE GLOSS ON "mad-AshrayAH" CONCEPT PARTICULARLY.

मद्-आश्रयाः कथा मृष्टाः शृण्वन्ति कथयन्ति च
तपन्ति विविधास् तापा नैतान् मद्-गत-चेतसः
mad-AshrayAH kathA mRRiShTAH shRRiNvanti kathayanti cha

Translation: “These devotees listen to My “Leelas and stories” in a very important (valuable) way! They also speak to each other about My Leelas!

They remain always, having consecrated their “inner mind” to Me only (i.e. My remembrance).

These devotees are never given any type of trouble by anyone. They have taken complete refuge in Me at all times!”

"Shree Subodhini-Tika" (OM VishnuPad Vallabha-Acharya): "The word “mad-AshrayAH” means that

MadhavaDeva-Acharya, Ahimsa and fish story...

I LIKED THIS STORY ABOUT NON-VIOLENCE. IN THE ASSAMESE VAISHNAVISM OM VISHNUPAD MADHAVADEVA-ACHARYA IS ONE OF THE PRINCIPAL ACHARYAS, HE IS SECOND IN RANK TO OM VISHNUPAD SHANKARADEVA-ACHARYA.

Once the disciples of Madhavadeva killed some fish in a near-about pond. On coming to know this Madhavadeva demanded an explanation for indulging themselves in the act of killing animals.

They replied that fishes caught by them would have died a few hours later as the water of the pond was fast drying up.

Madhavadeva thereupon asked them: "Would you kill a Brahmin if you know that he has only a few hours to live and by killing him you will relieve him of his death-agony"?

There are many other examples of stern actions taken by the Vaishnava reformers against moral lapses on the part of their disciples as well as the commendations for virtous actions done by them.

Good conduct and moral excellence is considered an essential element of Vaishnava ethics.

Bhagavan Shree Hari never shuns the Company of His Name...

Above all, Sankaradeva propagated Nama-Dharma as practical method to Bhakti. Nama Dharma consists in chanting The Name of The Supreme Self with undeviating devotion, being pure in heart, thought and action.

The advantage of

As weapon against death take The Name of Rama-Madhava...

The literary heritage of ShankaraDeva-Acharya (Assamese Vaishnava-Bhakti) is famous because of use of sometimes grotesque and hyperbolized metaphors along with simple language. To make Bhakti-Siddhanta more easily digestive by common folk, ShankaraDeva-Acharya resorted to striking and rude similes.

I liked very much the following Bhakti-Song (in DhanaShree Raga!).

Please pay attention to grotesque imagery such as "animal in man's dress", "thundering sound of death", "prison-world".

The following extract is cited from "SANKARADEVA VAISNAVA SAINT OF ASSAM", 1st edition December, 1960:

"In this world of illusion, faith, adoration and devotion to Krishna (or Rama) can only release human beings from death, destruction and utter ruin. The following hymns describe ShankaraDeva's conception of devotion, spirit of humility and self-surrender:

"O sinful mind, cling to the Feet of Rama.
Life is unstable.
As weapon against death,
Take The Name of Rama-Madhava.

Days, nights and life pass away,
And death approaches with thundering sound.
Think of the body's decay
Forsake everything and seek Shelter under Rama.

O animal in man's dress,
in the snare of cravings,
You are a prisoner now.
From this prison-world non can rescue you,
Save your own devotion to The Lord.

Devoutly I serve The Great Lord Rama;
Let Him reside in my heart.
Rama is my Most Precious Treasure.
O Lord, leave me not in the grip of death,
Prays the servant of Krishna".

English annotation by Vishnudut1926: This is a fundamental research about Assamese Vaishnavism (Vaishnava System of ShankaraDeva-Acharya).

I recommend to read along with more simplified Book, which I have uploaded today - "SANKARADEVA VAISNAVA SAINT OF ASSAM", 1st edition December, 1960.

I have speedread in 2 hours, the Book is perfect especially if you are interested in simple forms of Vaishnavism for masses (for example, Shree Gaudiya-Vaishnavism of Shree Chaitanya) with HariNama Kirtanas and etc.

English annotation by Vishnudut1926: This is a very simple Bhakti Book about Assamese Bhakti Vaishnava Movement and Bhakti System of ShankaraDeva-Acharya.

The Book is great if you are a newbie and would like to learn key concepts of Assamese Vaishnavism (this system is very similar to Gaudiya-Vaishnavism of Shree Chaitanya).

The Book is perfect for speedread, I have read just in 1 hour.

ШанкараДева-Ачарья (Харинам и Вайшнава-Бхакти в Ассаме)...

Неожиданно - 2 новых Вайшнавских Книги в моей электронной библиотеке:

1. "SANKARADEVA VAISNAVA SAINT OF ASSAM", 1st edition December, 1960  - https://vishnudut1926.blogspot.ru/2016/12/sankaradeva-vaisnava-saint-of-assam-1st.html

2. "THE NEO-VAISHNAVITE MOVEMENT AND THE SATRA INSTITUTION OF ASSAM" #by SN Sarma# Gauhati University, 1966 - https://vishnudut1926.blogspot.ru/2016/12/the-neo-vaishnavite-movement-and-satra.html
