"Sarasa Bharathi Vilasa: Glory of Shree Hari and His Parikars as enshrined in the Holy Agamas" by Shree Shreemad Vadiraja, translated by S.K. Achar, Udupi, 1999

DOWNLOAD (English, 4MB, OCR-layer):

English annotation by Vishnudut1926: Shree Shreemad Vadiraja-Acharya is considered to be the Second Acharya after Shree Shreemad Madhwa-Acharya, so bearing in mind this fact one can understand the Grandeur of the Books, written by Shree Shreemad Vadiraja-Tirtha.

"Sarasa Bharathi Vilasa" is especially crucial, because it dwells on Taratamya and Swatantra, both notions being the most considerable and significant parts of Shree Shreemad Madhwa-Acharya Dwaita-Vedanta.

Excerpt from Forward by Dr. Swami Satya Prasad Dasji Vedantacharya - Bhuj:

"The Skanda Purana is one of the premier-most Purana among the eighteen principal Puranas.

The principal speaker in this Purana is Lord Skanda,  also  known  by  such  other  names  like
Shanmuka, Subramanya and so on.

This Purana is divided into different ‘Khanda-s’ or divisions like Vishnu-Khada, Shiva-Khanda etc.  The  Vishnu-Khanda deals with the episodes that speak about the ‘Leela-s’ (pastimes) that depict the greatness and supremacy of Lord Vishnu or Narayana.

Among the many ‘Mahatmya-s’ found in the Vishnu-Khanda, the ‘Vasudeva Mahatmya’ is one
of the most important Mahatmya-s that we come across.

These Mahatmya-s explain the Greatness of particular aspects connected to the Lord.

As far as the Swaminarayana Sampradaya is concerned, the ‘Vasudeva Mahatmya’ is one of the most im-
portant  texts.

It  seems  that  Bhagavan  Shree Swaminarayan advocated that all of his followers study the ‘Vasudeva Mahatmya’ with great devotion and dedication.  During His time, Bhagavan Shree Swaminarayan strongly opposed those Vedic sacrifices in which animals were killed and offered to the sacrificial fire.

He won many debates over the Brahmins who argued there was nothing wrong in killing animals as long as they were within the purview of the Sastras.

One of the main instances Bhagavan Shree Swaminarayan quoted while winning the debates in this regard were instances found in the Vasudeva Mahatmya, where a great sage is considered to be a sinner since he supported the killing of animals as part of the Vedic sacrifices.

Apart from this, we also see the description of the Goloka, the blissful and exalted abode of the Supreme Lord Narayana in this part of the Skanda Purana.

The Mandala of the Lord Maha-Vishnu is also described here in a minute manner.

Further, the method of worship of the Lord is also prescribed here. It is based on this part of the Purana, that
Bhagavan Shree Swaminarayan has prescribed the method of worship to be followed by all His followers.

The details of the duties and responsibilities of the four classes of people viz. Brahmana-s, Kshatriya-s, Vaidhya-s and Shudra-s are also described in great detail.

The general principles as well as the special principles to be followed by men and women during their various stages of life like childhood, youth, old age etc too are described in a very beautiful manner.

Finally the procedure of performing the “Ashtanga Yoga” (Yoga having the eight aspects) and the procedure to meditate and worship the Lord is explained in a very concise and beautiful manner.

At the end, the lineage of the knowledge of Vasudeva Mahatmya is described in the final chapter.

Since the Original text is in Sanskrit language, it was not accessible to people not knowing Sanskrit language.

Later it was translated into Gujarati and Hindi.  Thus it could reach a large number of devotees  knowing  these  languages.

However, nowadays, there are many devotees belonging to the Sampradaya in foreign countries.

They are not well-versed in Indian languages.

This effort to translate Vasudeva Mahatmya into English is aimed at reaching the noble message of the  Vasudeva Mahatmya to all the Hari-Bhaktas’s (devotees) residing abroad as well as those in India too who know English".

"True enlightment in Vaishnava Tradition in the Words of Shree Shreemad Swami Narayan"

The following Gadhada from "Shree Vachanamrita" (Shree SwamiNarayan Sampraday) is one of the most precious masterpieces of Katha, I have ever encountered in Vaishnava-Granthas.

Shree Shreemad Swami Narayan, "Realising Bhagvan Through The Four Shastras"

52.1

In the Samvat year 1876, on Maha vad 3 [2 nd February, 1820], Shreeji Maharaj was having katha read on the veranda outside Dada Khachar’s medi in Gadhada.

He was dressed entirely in white clothes.

A sabha of munis, as well as haribhaktas from various places, had gathered before Him.

52.2

During the katha, a reference was made to the fact that a person who understands Bhagvan’s svarup through the four sets of shastras – Sankhya, Yog, Vedant, and Panch-Ratra – should be known to be completely enlightened.

52.3

Hearing this, Muktanand Swami asked, “Maharaj, please explain how a person can realise Bhagvan through those four sets of shastras? Also, what deficiency remains in a person who does not realise Bhagvan in that way?”

"The Bhagavad Gita Bhashya of Shree Madhvacarya", ENGLISH-SANSKRIT, translated B.N.K. Sharma, Anandatirtha Pratisthana, 1989

UPDATE from 09-June-2019: enhanced scan had been added (optimized size + OCR-txt-layer in English)

DOWNLOAD (Sanskrit-English, 16MB, OCR-layer):

Annotation by Vishnudut1926: I am a not a fan of Sharma's translations, because his books usually have false synopsis of Shree Ramanuja-Sampradaya notions. Sometimes offences are also included.

In this book Sharma offended Shree Shreemad Ramanuja-Acharya at page 301 (see note 13 on the page 301).

The previous book of Sharma also had mistakes and perfunctory synopsises of Ramanuja-Sampradaya ideas.

Nevertheless, this is the English translation of "Bhagavad-Gita-Bhashya" by Shree Shreemad Madhva-Acharya with Sanskrit Text included.

Shree Shreemad Madhva-Acharya has compiled exceptional glosses, some of them are really magnificent (for example, see the gloss for the verse 14.26 at p. 279).

And yet, the commentaries by Shree Shreemad Madhwa-Acharya and commentaries by Shree Shreemad Keshava Kashmiri (Shree Nimbarka-Sampradaya) are still being considered to be favourite by me.

"GOPIKRISHNA EPISODE: ITS INTERPRETATIONS" from the English Introduction to "Shreemad Bhagavata Mahapuranam", Skandha 10

Previously in my annotation to the Skandha 10 of "Shreemad Bhagavata Mahapuranam" I have mentioned that the English introduction to this book is blameless and out-of-this-world.

The following excerpt from this introduction dwells on Rasa-Leela and 3 Adhyatmika interpretations are given.

I insistently recommend to tackle this article with thorough appoach, because it eliminates too infantile judgments about Rasa-Leela.

GOPIKRISHNA EPISODE: ITS INTERPRETATIONS.

The following matter under three headings has been taken from the Introduction of Sri Bhagavata translation by Swami Tapasyananda (Vol.III, Skandha I). I gratefully acknowledge the valuable help obtained.

Critics have not been wanting who have cavelled at the moral stature of Krishna for his questionable relationship with the Gopis and the propriety of a devotional text like the Bhagavata including in itself such highly erotic episodes and their graphic descriptions.

So various attempts have been made to get over these difficulties by several theories, some of the most important of which are as follows:

1. The whole episode of Krishna and Gopikas is symbolical and not factual.

The Gopikas stand for the soul (Jivatman) and Krishna for the Supreme Soul (Paramatman) and

English annotation by Vishnudut1926:

Actually Ujjvala-Nilamani is completely untranslatable to English.

If someone read any book on Sanskrit philology and especially the books about the history of Sanskrit Poetry (Kavya), then the first assertion to encounter would be "Don't try to translate Sanskrit poetry, because it has too many puns, too many allusions and too many derivatives, which could be understood only by native Sanskrit speaker (writer)".

There is such notion as ALANKARA (अलङ्कार - embellishment, decoration) in Sanskrit Kavya and the poetry school which is named after this notion.

So, actually most of the Sanskrity Poetry is all about alankara. That's why only in Sanskrit Poetry you can find such exquisite poetic decorations as the verses in shape of swords, snakes, verses, that have one meaning at the first glance and another when you read them according to special directions (for example, according to circle direction).

And actually, this leads to the major problem of all the English translations, making all of them too fragile in a sense of "mots justes".

Many verses in "Shree Ujjvala-Nilamani" have double meanings and all the English translations fail to convey them.

So "Shree Ujjvala-Nilamani" must be read in Sanskrit.

Hindi translation is also good, taking into account that Shree Shreemad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja, who made the Hindi translation left most of the Sanskrit words.

So, if you read Hindi translation, you should use Sanskrit vocubulary.

There are some English and even Russian translation in the Internet, but all of them lack the purity of original Sanskrit verses.

And of course verses of "Shree Ujjvala-Nilamani" haven't to be understood in too literal sense. The Spiritual World is very much apart from material world and Acharyas of Gaudiya-Sampradaya just used Sanskrit Poetry in order to give a preliminary knowledge about Spiritual World to mentally deteriorated Kali-Yuga people.

Hence if there is a mention of kisses in Ujjvala-Nilamani, it does not mean that there are kisses in the Spiritual World, because the Spiritual World is not so primitive, square and miserable as the material one.

Shree Shreemad Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja has written the following about His Hindi translation: "Caution: This book will not be comprehensible unless one dives into the deep ocean of Bhakti, i.e. Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu. Only after attaining proficiency in Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu should one dare to search for this blue emerald, Ujjvala-nilmani, found deep within the ocean of bhakti, otherwise one may get lost. We should very carefully understand the exalted position of this book and also appreciate the qualification that are required for hearing it".

English annotation by Vishnudut1926: "Greatness of Sharanagati" is the exceptionally laudable book.

Dr. C. Umakantham writes about Sharanagati not only from Shree Ramanuja Sampradaya point of view, but within the frames of Upanishadic and Puranic outlook as well.

A lot of Pramanas from Upanishads and Puranas are listed.

The book is flawlessly balanced: theoretical parts of the book are sequenced by distinguished practical explanations, dwelling on such practical matters as Prapanna, Abhigamana, Ijya and etc.

Annotation by Vishnudut1926: I have been studying "Satwata-Tantra" in 2010, so to my dismay I don't remember the main nods of narration.

I do remember that Adhyaya 6 devoted to "1000 Names of Shree Krishna" (and I even remember some Shree Krishna Names from this Adhyaya).

The last Adhyaya (Adhyaya 9) should be memorized, because in this Adhyaya Shiva tells why He has concealed the knowledge about Bhagavan Shree Vishnu and fabricated tamasika-shastras and advaita-shastras.

This Adhyaya perfectly correlates with those Chapters from "Shree Padma-Purana" and "Shree Vishnu-Purana" in which Shiva tells about false religious doctrines of Kali-Yuga.

Annotation by Vishnudut1926: "Sanat-Kumara-Samhita" is the Agama of crucial significance for Gaudiya and Nimbarka-Sampradaya, because Shreemati Radharani Devi and Shree Krishna are remarkably extolled in this part of "Pancaratra".

There are crucial Dhyanas and Mantras in "Sanat-Kumara-Samhita".
