4 Mantras of Shree MahaLakshmi-Devi in "Shree Sita-Upanishad" and the critical blunder in the English translation of "Shree Sita-Upanishad" by A.G. Krishna Warrier...

I have been checking Sanskrit-English renditions of "Shree Sita-Upanishad" today and it turned out, that the English translation of "Shree Sita-Upanishad" by A.G. Krishna Warrier contains the very critical blunder - Shree MahaLakshmi-Mantra is totally lost in his translation!!!

Unfortunately, A.G.K.Warrier's "far from perfect" translation is the only English translation existing up to now.

According to "Shree Sita-Upanishad" Shree Sita-Devi is just an Avatara of Shreemati MahaLakshmi-Devi - this is the right Siddhanta.
For this reason, "Shree Sita-Upanishad" contains 4 Laksmi-Mantras: all these 4 Mantras establish true and correct Shree MahaLakshmi-Siddhanta.
We will discuss these 4 Mantras further. Let's look at the blunder by A.G. Krishna Warrier at first - it is from "The Sakta Upanishads in English", Adyar Library, 1967. See the screenshot below (also on #flickr#plurk):

Now let's look at the correct variant in Sanskrit:

सा सर्ववेदमयी सर्वदेवमयी सर्वलोकमयी सर्वकीर्तिमयी
सर्वधर्ममयी सर्वाधारकार्यकारणमयी महालक्ष्मी
sā sarvavedamayī sarvadevamayī sarvalokamayī sarvakīrtimayī
sarvadharmamayī sarvādhārakāryakāraṇamayī mahālakṣmī

I have checked the Sanskrit Adyar Library Edition (edited by Pandit A. MahaDeva Shastri, Adyar Library, 1950). Of course, this Sanskrit edition contains Shree MahaLakshmi-Mantra, see the screenshot from the edition below (also on #flickr#plurk):

Now back to the 4 Mantras of Shreemati MahaLakshmi-Devi from "Shree Sita-Upanishad".

Mantra 4 says about Shree TaraLakshmi-Devi, that is about Shreemati Lakshmi-Devi, Who saves from sansara.

As you know both in Puranas and Agamas the Mantras of Shreemati Lakshmi-Devi and Shreemati Durga-Devi are always designated as Taraka-Mantras, so the following Mantra from "Shree Sita-Upanishad" confirms the Taraka-Mantra-Siddhanta on Vaidika level:

तकारस्तारलक्ष्म्या च वैराजः प्रस्तरः स्मृतः
takārastāralakṣmyā ca vairājaḥ prastaraḥ smṛtaḥ ["Shree Sita-Upanishad" - 4]

Mantra 10 says about Shree SarvaLakshmi-Devi, that is about Shree MahaLakshmi as MahaDevi - this is the Siddhanta chiming with Shree MahaLakshmi-Gayatri

sā sarvavedamayī sarvadevamayī sarvalokamayī sarvakīrtimayī
sarvadharmamayī sarvādhārakāryakāraṇamayī mahālakṣmī

Mantra 16 says about 3 Forms of Shreemati MahaLakshmi-Devi: Shree, Bhumi and Neela - this Siddhanta corresponds to such Vaidika concept as "Pancha-Suktam" ("Shree Suktam", "Bhu-Suktam", "Neela-Suktam", "Narayana-Suktam", "Purusha-Suktam"):

श्रीदेवी त्रिविधं रूपं कृत्वा भगवत्सङ्कल्पानु
śrīdevī trividhaṃ rūpaṃ kṛtvā bhagavatsaṅkalpānu

By the way, A.G. Krishna Warrier translates Mantra NO. 16 in a right way (see the green screenshot below or #flickr#plurk):

And Mantra 37 says about Shree Veera-Lakshmi, but this Mantra requires a separate detailed gloss, because the Vaidik/Tantrik/Puranik concept of Shreemati Durga-Devi must be also explained here:

लक्ष्मीर्देवस्य पृथग्भवनकल्पना अलंचकार स्थिरा
प्रसन्नलोचना सर्वदेवतैः पूज्यमाना वीरलक्ष्मीरिति
lakṣmīrdevasya pṛthagbhavanakalpanā alaṃcakāra sthirā
prasannalocanā sarvadevataiḥ pūjyamānā vīralakṣmīriti

P.S. All 4 Mantras mentioned in this article had been checked with the Sanskrit edition of "Shakta-Upanishads" edited by Pandit A. MahaDeva Shastri, Adyar Library, 1950 - see the check-list with screenshots below or on #flickr#tele#plurk#box:
