English annotation by Vishnudut1926: "Greatness of Sharanagati" is the exceptionally laudable book.

Dr. C. Umakantham writes about Sharanagati not only from Shree Ramanuja Sampradaya point of view, but within the frames of Upanishadic and Puranic outlook as well.

A lot of Pramanas from Upanishads and Puranas are listed.

The book is flawlessly balanced: theoretical parts of the book are sequenced by distinguished practical explanations, dwelling on such practical matters as Prapanna, Abhigamana, Ijya and etc.

Annotation by Vishnudut1926: I have been studying "Satwata-Tantra" in 2010, so to my dismay I don't remember the main nods of narration. 

I do remember that Adhyaya 6 devoted to "1000 Names of Shree Krishna" (and I even remember some Shree Krishna Names from this Adhyaya). 

The last Adhyaya (Adhyaya 9) should be memorized, because in this Adhyaya Shiva tells why He has concealed the knowledge about Bhagavan Shree Vishnu and fabricated tamasika-shastras and advaita-shastras. 

This Adhyaya perfectly correlates with those Chapters from "Shree Padma-Purana" and "Shree Vishnu-Purana" in which Shiva tells about false religious doctrines of Kali-Yuga.

Annotation by Vishnudut1926: "Sanat-Kumara-Samhita" is the Agama of crucial significance for Gaudiya and Nimbarka-Sampradaya, because Shreemati Radharani Devi and Shree Krishna are remarkably extolled in this part of "Pancaratra".

There are crucial Dhyanas and Mantras in "Sanat-Kumara-Samhita".

Some abridged English translations of "Sanat-Kumara-Samhita" can be encountered in the Internet, but all of them lack certain Adhyayas.

This Sanskit 1969 edition is the intergate version from Adyar Library.

This  particular  edition  of  "SHREE VISHNU-PURANA"  includes  a  commentary  called  "Vishnuchittiyam"  by  Vishnuchitta,  who  is  also  known  as  'Engalalvan'  in  Tamil.  

Vishnuchitta  lived  from  1097  to  1197  CE.  He  was  the  disciple  of  "Tirukurugai  Piraan  Pillaan"  the  Jnana  Putra  or  spiritual  son  of  Swami  Ramanujacharya.  

He  composed  about  half  a  dozen  works  elucidating  the  philosophical  works  of  Swami  Ramanujacharya.  Only the  Vishnuchittyam  is  extant  today.

"Western Krishna-consumerism and bookish siddha-dehas" - review of "Realization and Manifestation of Your Eternal Identity" by Uttamasloka dasa

A story behind this post. 

In 2012 book "Realization and Manifestation of Your Eternal Identity: Identity Transformation Through Raganuga-Bhakti" by Uttamasloka dasa  was published. 

Some parts of the book are gravely offensive (for example, the unneccessary considerations about Manjari-Bhava and cites from Rasa-Granthas, which do not imply public discussion at all - see "Ramananda-Samvad" for details). 

The book had caused mixed reviews. At first Shree Shreemad Tripurari Swami had published a review (and I knew about the book from His site harmonist.us), where He mentions famous words “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread" by Shree Shreemad B.R. Shreedhara Maharaja. 

Then the review from Shree Shreemad Satya Narayana followed (actually, it is not the review, but a reply to one of the questions and following considerations about the tenebrous future of E-book publishing in the iPad Age). 

The main theme of "Realization and Manifestation of Your Eternal Identity" is Raganuga-Sadhana, but the book completely fails to tell what the real Raganuga-Sadhana is. 

The main message of the book is "Teach yourself Raganuga-Sadhana from the books", but it is completely impossible to implement in real life, because LIVE Guru-Guidance

Книга-шедевр, я очень рекомендую. Книга отличается уникальным, энциклопедическим охватом идей Шри Шримад Веданты Десики. В книге обсуждаются такие темы как Вишиштадвайта-Веданта, Прапатти, Агамы и Самхиты, садхана Шри Рамануджа-Сампрадайи и многие другие темы. Дальнейшую часть рецензии я напишу на английском.

ANNOTATION IN ENGLISH by Vishnudut1926: This book is more than splendid and it can be be divided in 4 parts. 

The first part tells about life of Shree Shreemad Vedanta-Desika. It was great for me to know that Shree Shreemad Vedanta-Desika was initiated in Garuda-Mantra (page 12). Some interesting stories are mentioned in the book in this regard. 

The second part dwells on brief descriptions of main Granthas by Shree Shreemad Vedanta Desika. The list of Agamas and Samhitas, cited by Shree Shreemad Vedanta Desika is mentioned on the page 110 and if you are interested in Pancaratra topics, you will find this information very useful. 

The third part of the book is Vedantic and it has brilliant sinopsis of Vishishtadvaita. 

In the fourth part such notions as Prapatti and Sadhana are discussed. The sinopsis of Shree Shreemad Vedanta Desika's Stotras in this part is extremely vivid, spiritually exhilarating and inspirational at the highest degree.

The book is unique, because it vividly tells about Vishishtadvaita (without overburdened falls in boring technical terminology) and because it really sheds brilliant, inspirational light on Para-Bhakti-Yoga notions.

"Daya-Satakam" by Vedanta Desika, English Commentary by D Ramaswamy Ayyangar, Tirumala Tirupati, 1961

This is 1961 edition of "Daya Satakam" by Shree Shreemad Vedanta Desika.

The commentaries were compiled  by D. Ramaswam Ayyangar and the tika is superb, so I recommend this book for thorough reading.

"This stotra is unique in several respects. 

In the history of religious literature, Vedanta Desika is the first poet-devotee to sing a whole hymn in praise of the Lord's Daya (mercy, grace, sympathy and compassion are some of the meanings which that term connotes). 

In fact, Daya has been personified as Daya Devi and made a Consort of the Lord. 

The other Consorts, Lakshmi, Bhu Devi and Nila Devi are all dear to the Lord because they are reflections of Daya Devi. (36). 

Among all the auspicious attributes (kalyana-gunas) of the Lord, Daya is the Empress (30, 101). But for Daya's presence, all the other gunas will virtually be dosha-s (faults) in the Lord so far as we are concerned (15), as they will all help Him only to punish us for our sins. 

The Lord Himself dons Daya as a protecting armour against our sins which assail Him. (28). The two chief aspects of the Lord's supreme glory, jagat-vyaapaara and releasing souls from samsara, for which He is praised by the Vedas, are really Daya Devi's achievements (68). 

Daya is defined as the Lord's wish (iccha) to protect those in distress (71)".

Я напомню, что в Традиции Шри Рамануджа-Сампрадайи Шри Кришна считается Аватарой Верховного Господа Нараяны, а Шримати Радхарани-Деви (Шримати Наппиннай-Деви, Шримати Нила-Шакти) считается Аватарой Шримати Маха-Лакшми-Деви. 

Книга содержит 2 уровня истолкования Стихов: 

1) Разъяснительный (на этом уровне часто разъясняется первый уровень символики и метафор) 

2) Символически-эзотерический (данный уровень объясняет стихи с позиции Веданты и таких терминов как четана, Мокша, Самадхи). 

На странице 59 очень хорошо разъясняется идея "Прапатти" (Prapatti - одна из самых главных идей Шри Шримад Рамануджа-Ачарьи). 

На странице 61 приводится таблица с объяснением такой идеи Шри Шримад Пиллай-Локачарьи как "Нава-Видха-Самбандха" (nava-vidha-sambhandha).

The first part of lectures is good. The second part of the book is just chronological research for scholars and archaeologists. 

The laconic biography of Shreemati Andal-Devi in the first part of the book is superb and it reminds stories about Raganuga-Bhaktas, which are popular in Bengal and in Gaudiya-Sampradaya.

"Thirty Minor Upanishads" translated by Narayanaswami Aiyar, 1914

Депрессивные Гьяна-Упанишады и Йога-Упанишады. Обложка книги похожа на надгробие и сама книга тоже. "Жил, медитировал, умер, отправился в брахмаджйоти (нирвану)". 

Сборник действительно очень депрессивен, потому что Гьяна-Канда (адвайта, буддизм и прочие ереси Кали-Юги) - это тупиковое направление индийской философии для джив, которые разочаровались во всём и теперь просто хотят самоуничтожиться. 

Несмотря на всё это в книге есть действительно сильные Упанишады. 

Например, "Атма-Бодха-Упанишада". 

В разделе "Мантра-Упанишады" приведены очень мощные переводы "Нараяна-Упанишады" и "Кали-Сантарана-Упанишады". 

"Кали-Сантарана-Упанишада" знаменита из-за "Харе-Кришна-Маха-Мантры". 

Я также рекомендую обратить внимание на Санньяси-Упанишады, так как они действительно способствуют выработке отречения.

ENGLISH ANNOTATION by Vishnudut1926: "Natya-Shastra" by Shree Shreemad Bharata Muni does not belong to Vaishnava-Granthas, but Acaryas from Gaudiya-Sampradaya have based canonic Gaudiya-Granthas (for example, "Shree Bhakti-Rasamrita-Sindhu" and "Nataka-Chandrika" by Shree Shreemad Rupa Goswami) on such notions from "Natya-Shastra" as sthayi-bhava, sattvika-bhavas and etc. 

Therefore, the notions from Indian Aesthetics (and "Natya-Shastra" with "Sahitya-Darpana" belong to classic Indian Aesthetic Canon) are crucial for understanding the Gaudiya System, though it have to be noted, that Shree Shreemad Rupa Goswami has reconsidered many ideas of Bharata Muni. 

It's the crucial point to remember, because "Natya-Shastra" speaks only about laukika (लौकिक), that is mayik (मायिक) Rasas, while Gaudiya Acharyas promulgate only spiritual (adhyatmik - आध्यात्मिक) Rasa.

So, "Natya-Shastra" describes Rasas from mayik baddha-jivas' point of view, while the Granthas of Gaudiya-Sampradaya represent Rasas from Mukta-Jivas' point of view. And these 2 points of view are 100% different.  

РУССКАЯ АННОТАЦИЯ: "Натья-Шастру" обязательно нужно знать хотя бы фрагментарно, потому что именно на "Натья-Шастре" Шри Шримад Рупа Госвами выстраивал всю эстетическую теорию Гаудийа-Сампрадайи. 

Например, такие термины как "стхайи-бхава", "анубхава" и прочие - это всё термины из "Натья-Шастры". 

НО САМОЕ ГЛАВНОЕ заключается в том, что Шри Шримад Рупа Госвами использовал "Натья-Шастру" лишь как базис, потому что эстетическая теория Гаудийа-Сампрадайи отличается от теорий "Натья-Шастры" и об этих отличиях Шри Шримад Рупа Госвами рассказывает, например, в "Натака-Чандрике".
